An 'old basketball knee' was the motivation that led to the creation of the Turned Stirrup. The base of the stirrup turns out 30 degrees forming a natural foot position that ensures comfort and improves rider balance. Over a year of development and rider testing went into the design of these stirrups. The orthopedic value of Turned Stirrups has been verified and these stirrups have also proven to benefit the rider's overall competitive performance. We have been told by barrel racers and pole benders that losing stirrups is not only less frequent but it is also easier to pick them up.
All stirrups are handmade of 6061 aircraft aluminum and are .250 inches thick. We offer a choice of stirrups made to accommodate 2 1/2 and 3 inch width saddle leathers. All have 2 inch width bases and all are fitted with rubber footpads that are easily replaced. We have installed a 1/4 inch stainless steel pin, horizontally, one inch below the main bolt. This pin will maintain the stirrup in the correct position at all times. The pin replaces the old hobble strap that restricts the flexibility of the stirrup leathers.
Because of the growing popularity of our Turned Stirrups outside of our intended Speed Event market we are now making stirrups with a broader tread width for ropers. We also are offering Turned Stirrups sized for children.
We manufacture several different models and sizes of stirrups all of which are available in a choice of finishes.
